roti bakar @ campbell st

We’re been wanting to come eat here for so long now. Many a times something came up and we always cancelled. So we made it a point to finally eat here and see what the fuss was about. Note: even though I’m an island son, this is the 1st time I’ve eaten here.. malu laah I know… We got there around 830am and obviously you cant park on campbell st since its so congested. its a miracle if you can even find a parking slot here. the "shop" was 90% packed and we managed to grab a table in front of the bread toaster... which was next to the "egg station"... which was next to the "drink station"... The atmosphere just seemed very stressful. and i pity the "bread toaster" as he had to squat in front of the charcoal fire to toast the bread. really not ergo.. :-D we ordered kopi peng but got kopi-o-peng instead... :-P anyhow, it was pretty good kopi-o-peng so i didn't really complain. while waiting for the bread set to arrive, we had some nasi lemak.. so-so only.. the bread finally came after 10minutes. The bread was lightly toasted over charcoal and spread with butter and kaya. I have to say its one of the BEST toast bread that I’ve ever had. the eggs finally came as well, 5minutes after we finished the excellent bread. eggs as usual, eaten with standard soy sauce and pepper. eggs were nicely done. not too runny and not too hard. they actually use the yellow egg maker that most people have in their homes.

Their timing seem to be off that day. The 2 bread sets came before the eggs came. So we actually finished all the bread before eating the eggs. i didn't really like that because i normally like to dip the bread into the eggs. elpea was already looking at ways to cut the waste and "lean" the processes... seriously, i kid you not...!!!!

Ambiance: Don't get me wrong, I’m a veteran at eating in sidelanes and I love the food here but the atmosphere just seems very tense. maybe it was just a bad day for them..

Would I go back again: Definitely. the roti is good laah.

Overall: 4/5

yee haw... western food..

its western food today..
we had:
scrambled eggs
grilled sausages
baked beans
fresh vegetables.. (carrots looh)
and not forgetting, toast.
only thing missing was the streaky bacon...

who says salads have to be boring

no one seems to like to eat the way i do at home.. maybe i'm weird... maybe they're weird.. :-P anyhoo, i had a bottle of italian salad dressing and a bag of lettuce.. and so i was thinking.. why not make a simple salad like that french lady on the food channel.. looks like its salad week... version#1 bowl of lettuce + shredded chicken meat + a handful of crushed bbq potato chips with a few dashes of the italian salad dressing version#2 bowl of lettuce + croutons made from 1 sliced bread + 3/4-boiled egg sprinkled with cayenne pepper and toppped with the italian salad dressing...

1/2 boiled eggs and toast

One of my favorite food is eggs.. Fried, boiled omelet-d or best of all, ½ boiled. I love ½ boiled eggs. This is another food I can eat everyday but i know that it would kill me, so its max of 3eggs a week… but then really, who’s counting..? :- ) I have fond memories of my mum and aunt preparing these eggs every Sunday morning for breakfast. I’ve always like dipping the eggs with toasted bread and even with eu-char-koay and roti canai. Anyway, I digress… It was the weekend and we were looking for a quick fix. So elpea took out the trusty yellow ½ boil egg maker, plunked in some eggs, put in the boiling water and then we just waited till it was done..~15minutes I guess Oh yea, in the meantime she also toasted the bread, and buttered the toast. We didn’t have regular bread so it was the orange loaf from continental bakery. Whatever was available..!! Eggs ( 2 or more).. they must not be too runny and the yolk must not to hard as well
Toast, put 2slices of bread into the toaster and wait for them to jump.. our toaster is a bit screwy so you’ll see our toast slightly burnt. After that butter the toast lightly, or heavily, which ever you prefer. Some times I use garlic butter which works quite nice as well.
Finally, add a dash of ground pepper and a few drops of lea & perrins
and … TA DAAAAH.. ready to serve…
Yummy, 1/2 boiled eggs with buttered toast.
