simply nutritious @ lebuh melaka

it was a quiet Sunday evening and we had 3hours to kill..
without the kids...
the place we were going to was recommended by a friend and i've seen good reviews.

simply nutritious is a small restaurant tucked in one of these old houses in the middle of lebuh melaka. its one of those "lanes" right smack in the middle of town.
blink and you'll probably miss it.

the restaurant specializes in spaghetti and i love spaghetti, so it was win-win from the start.

the menu is pretty simple actually.
its got a variety "mains" made up of meats and fish in the different preparation styles.
then they have 4 varieties of spaghetti to serve with the "mains"

  1. pesto
  2. tomato concasse
  3. spinach/mushroom/wolf berry
  4. mushroom cheese

it was pretty early for dinner at 630pm so we were served pretty fast.

the first to come was the drinks, my "orange juice" and her "cucumber and sourplum juice"
her drink was definitely more adventurous than mine and it tasted pretty good actually.
and the orange tasted like orange. :-)

the mushroom soup, which tasted quite good. served in a weird but cool bowl.

my teriyaki fish with pesto spaghetti.
the spaghetti was perfectly "al dente" and the pesto was one of the better ones that i've tasted.

the spaghetti was very nicely coated with the pesto and sprinkled with cheese..
and i didn't even have to sprinkle pepper on it.

the fish was fresh, which to me is the most important factor and as you can see the fish "steak" itself is huge.
also the teriyaki part was nicely executed as well.
as my friend would say, "very flavorful"

so in summary..
she had the mushrom soup which both of us found very nice.
i ordered the teriyaki fish with excellent pesto spaghetti
1 orange juice
1 cucumber sourplum
how much do you think that cost?
~MYR26 only.

overall 9/10
i only wished i could've tasted the other spaghetti's.
we're definitely coming back here.

birthday dinner @ penang chinese swimming club

firstly, this is one of the most strategic places to eat if you hv kids and if you need to hv rice with dishes. plus carpark + breezy + place for kids to run + fast service. i could not ask for more. we've come here a lot for our "family get-together" over the years and everyone likes the food here. i'm sure there are other places around tg bungah but i'm too lazy to explore. anyway, the management and chef has changed but it looks like the menu didn't change much. we started off with birthday mee.
and how can you hv a birthday without "birthday noodles"right?
choon phiah.. super huge
tomyam lohbak
stir fried veggies
the steamed fish
the pai kut wong, de-boned pork ribs
the whole shebang..
overall, it was a good meal. it could have been better . though i must say this is the 1st time that we've finished everything that we ordered.

ikan bakar opp sunshine sq mosque

The exact location of the “stall” is on the main road opp sunshine sq mosque.

There’s usually quite a lot of people as they sell a huge variety of dishes for Ramadan.

The last time I was there I bought 3 pieces of stingray. ($2.5 per/pc)

This time however I bought 2 pieces and boy were they huge. ($4.0 per/pc)

There are pros and cons to this, as I found out.

The Good

Huge pieces of meat that taste real good with rice and the sauce. The 2 pieces could have fed 3 people.

The Bad

The inside of the fish is not as cooked. And because the pieces are bigger I believe they cook it longer so the skin is a bit more burnt and elastic.. Some parts were inedible.

Next time I’m buying the smaller pieces.

The sauce

The sause is made up of sliced onion and lots of other spices/herbs combined with lime juice. Basically, its sour in taste. The sauce’s spicyness depends on how much sambal/chilli you put in it and since it was self serve, I think I put too much.

the sauce complements the fish quite nicely but it also already quite nice without the sauce

Overall 7/10
