koay kak @lipsin market part 2

The 2nd stall in the lip sin market is the motorbike stall in front of the sin kek seng coffee shop.

The koay kak was firm and not mushy but tasted quite salty.

Well, all I can say is that it was better than the 1st stall but still not better than the one I had behind sg ara taimima coffee shop.

Overall 3/10

Go back to sg ara to buy?

Maybe I need to try the one in supertanker as well.

ikan bakar opp sunshine sq mosque

The exact location of the “stall” is on the main road opp sunshine sq mosque.

There’s usually quite a lot of people as they sell a huge variety of dishes for Ramadan.

The last time I was there I bought 3 pieces of stingray. ($2.5 per/pc)

This time however I bought 2 pieces and boy were they huge. ($4.0 per/pc)

There are pros and cons to this, as I found out.

The Good

Huge pieces of meat that taste real good with rice and the sauce. The 2 pieces could have fed 3 people.

The Bad

The inside of the fish is not as cooked. And because the pieces are bigger I believe they cook it longer so the skin is a bit more burnt and elastic.. Some parts were inedible.

Next time I’m buying the smaller pieces.

The sauce

The sause is made up of sliced onion and lots of other spices/herbs combined with lime juice. Basically, its sour in taste. The sauce’s spicyness depends on how much sambal/chilli you put in it and since it was self serve, I think I put too much.

the sauce complements the fish quite nicely but it also already quite nice without the sauce

Overall 7/10

Muar chee and ham chin peng

Muar chee @lip sin market

There are 2 type of muah chee, The butterfly type which is slighty puffier and the ribbon type which is well ,, see the picture …

The one I had is the ribbon version

Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside

Generous amounts of muah on it as well.

Overall 7/10

Haam chim peng @lip sin market

Quite tender and with lots of red bean paste.

Much more redbean than what I’ve seen elsewhere.

The sg ara one cant beat this. Sorry.

Overall 8/10

Tooo much of a good thing

I’m sick of buffets…

Or to be more precise, I’m sick of going to E&O for the buffets

I didn’t really enjoy myself the last time I was there.

Don’t get me wrong. The food at Sarkies is excellent.

They have a very huge variety of western/asian food. Including a Sushi bar. Salad bar. Hokkein mee, char koay teow, roasted duck. Soups& bread.

The grill is very popular with everyone as well, grilled meats and seafood. The lamb is good as well.

Not to mention the sinful dessert circle. I love the bread pudding and they have excellent cakes, tarts. And ice cream. And ice kacang, I normally grab the red beans, skip the shaved ice and just scoop ice cream on top. Yummy.

I rate them at 8/10.

BUT,

I have been to that restaurant for 4 to 5 times already this year.

Overload. Overkill. Whatever you want to call it..

BUT,

I’m a glutton :-) so I’ll probably go again next year…

goals for Q4 09

Things I want to try to do before the end of the year:

  1. Bake my mum’s boiled choc fruit cake
  2. Make spaghetti carbonara
  3. Make the Kylie Kwong stir fry hor fun
  4. Make choc molten cake (but I need ramekins)
