Laksa & Me, history??

No longer crave for Laksa like I used to. Previously before Brandon, I will have laksa at least once a week. I even have the hp number for the stall at Bukit Jambul. Posted this last year. Tuesday, March 13, 2007 Laksa This is the only food that i can eat without feeling quilty of the calories (still living in denial). I like my laksa without 'hare koe'. 'Hare koe' spoils its original taste and aroma. Laksa lemak or asam laksa, I love both equally. My fav place for Laksa. i) The coffee shop opposite Penang Chinese Girls School ii) Kafe Super Jumbo - The coffee shop opposite Pizza Hut at BJC iii) BB Coffee shop near Sunshine Square iv) Pg6 Cafe

Durian Season Is Here Again

This was posted by E last year. Well it is the season again. This time I am going to have a feast. Had Ling Fong Chiao and Lipan at HT's house the other day. It was really good... lau nua just thinking of it. I prefer Lipan. Friday, August 17, 2007 King Of Fruits (By E) Durian season is practically over and I feel a bit of regret.Did not eat as much durian as I wanted to.at least I focused on the good stuff.Only ate the D-24’s and Red prawn variety.and I ate more than elpea though.

Rojak @ Sg Dua (opp USM)

This entry was made in Aug last year when I was 5 months pregnant. Rojak free for more than 5 months oredi - the longest ever. Monday, August 27, 2007 Rojak & Patience What you need is patience. In the heart of your patience you will discover peace-blooms and satisfaction-blossoms. ~ Sri Chinmoy I rarely (e wud say never) have the patience to wait when buying food/stuff. Most of the time, I rather not eat at all and eat maggi mee if the queue is too long. Hmm but when it comes to the Rojak (only from the stall at Sg Dua) I can wait. 10mins? 15 mins? 20mins ? No problem. Previously I could not stand the uncle and aunty coz they will be arguing or fighting most of the time (ehhh one way argument I wud say as the aunty is the only one talking). I get so stress up to see them and that spoils my mood for rojak no doubt they make the best rojak (to our standard) so far. Something changed.... they no longer argue... they seems to be getting on fine. Good for them and the customers. Back to rojak and patience. Where did I get the patience to wait? What I do is take sit on the stool and start looking around, let my mind wander off a bit. That helps to kill the time while waiting. At least I get to sit while I wait.

Yummy .... cant resist this

choc cake & ice cream @home

my aunt made some chocolate cake and she gave me a whole 1/2 kg cake

so i made my own chococake-vanillaicecream-combo..
(reminiscent of brownies and ice cream...eh...)

you will need:
-chocolate cake, 2 slices preferbaly around 1 inch thick (can use quick bites as a substitute)
-vanilla ice-cream, 2-3 scoops, to your liking
-microwave

assembly instructions:
-microwave the cake for 20-30seconds till warm
-place cake on plate.
-scoop ice-cream on top of cake
-eat..

2 slices of warm moist chocolate cake

topped with vanilla ice cream
heavenly
yummy

burger @ castello burger near the CIMB at jalan tengah traffic light

burgers are one of our regular dinner items.
when we are bored of McD, we go for the regular-joe/ramly-burger-abang stalls..

this stall was recommended by our babysitter.. :-)
her son frequents the stall when hes back from australia
we tried it out and all 3 of us actually liked it.

what I like abt it:

- the meat is slightly crispy

- there no overload of cut veggies

- it doesnt turn into a "messy" burger or drip sauce when i eat it..

i normally consume 2 for dinner ..:-) hold the mayo and tomato sauce and just put the chilli laah..

Quick Bites – Choc Cake

Yummy Yummy Yummy. I can eat this for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. This is the best commercialized ‘moist choc cake’. Cheap and delicious. A packet with 2 rolls of cake is RM1.30.
Some says it tastes like Twiggy. I say it is better than Twiggy. Twiggy has cream in the middle and I don’t like that. I prefer this.

Tried its Banana Cake and don’t like it. Can taste the artificial banana flavouring. Not to my liking.

E, care to comment?

tai lok mee @ TYY sg ara

call it tai-lok mee or hokkein mee or tuapui mee.... its all the same... the best one i had was in KL, near the Jln pahang roundabout.. it had lots of pork fat...:-)
in PG, i'll just settle for the one in TYY in sg ara..
just a stones throw from our apartment...
only available for break and lunch
normally people eat it with sambal but i like it with cut green chillies..
the noodles are springy and the proportion of sauce to noodles is just right..
not too wet and not too dry...
he also does lots of other variations of noodles and LP and ry ordered fried rice :-) taste pretty good as well

Sister's Char Koay Teow

Almost everytime when we visit Nagreh we get to see tour bus parked beside the coffee shop where Sister's Char Koay Teow is located. (Nagreh is at Macalister and the clinic is opposite the coffee shop .. oops I cant remember the shop's name). So I assume this CKT Stall is a favourite for most of our local tour guide.
Went there on Wednesday while E was at his doctor. I was impressed with myself too. It is unlike me to eat alone specially at a coffee shop.
Ordered a plate with egg. Without egg is RM3, with egg is RM4 and RM5 for extra. Gosh an egg cost RM1?
Didn't wait that long. Arrghhh I was not too happy to see the CKT served in disposable poly plate and bamboo chopstick. That spoils the taste of the CKT. CKT shud be served in plate and with proper wooden/plastic chopstick. Okay okay I am supposed to comment about the CKT and not about the utensils.
Well, I rated it as 6.5/10. Hiyah... CKT is not CKT without 'ham' & 'lap cheong' eventhough I dont really fancy 'lap cheong'. Normally I will give all the 'lap cheong' to E. Quite expensive for RM4. There were 2 big prawns and bits of crab meat. So what... the crab meat is so little that you can't really taste it. The other reason I rated it as 6.5 was because the koay teow was broken into too many small pieces like shredded koay teow. Imagine eating small pcs of spagetti when you eat spagetti. Terrible right?
All in all the taste is not so bad. It is quite good. I wont know if the Sister's deserve to be in Top 5 until I try many more stalls.

Quest for best Char Koay Teow in Penang

I am on a quest to scout for the best Char Koay Teow (CKT) in Penang. This is suppose to be one of Penang's best dish ever. They even have Penang Char Koay Teow in Singapore. When my uncle from Singapore came back for Ching Ming 2 weeks ago the first thing that he wanted to eat was CKT. He said nothing is like the Penang Char Koay Teow. For him any CKT stall in Penang is good enough as long as it is Penang .. :). This prompt me to scout for top 5 Best CKT in Penang base on my taste. We will start with the so famous Sister Char Koay Teow in Macalister Street. This stall has its shares of popularity with outstation folks. However most Penangites will tell you that is not their favourite stall. I do agree that each has its own favourite hence I am going to give this stall a try. Actually I have eaten their CKT few years back and it was not to my liking. Hmmm no harm trying.

First Entry

Blog about food... hmm why not? Both of us like to eat ... yummy yummy .... Well, will see how it goes from here.
