Buttercream Icing

This is iced and designed by an expert - someone who ran a cake house for > 10 years. She did this in less than 20minutes. Cool. She is my Cikgu Santhi. My 1st attempt. Honestly I dont really like it coz I think it is old fashion. However I amazed with my piping skills. Truly and originally my creation. I love the color combination. This design is me :)

TGIF cheeseburger

The huge cheeseburger I had at TGIF last week during our teambuilding lunch.

Nice and juicy and I love the sliced pickles.

I thought I could not finish it but I did.The last few bites were a torture though.

I heard the Jack Daniels burger is quite good as well.

Guess where I ate?

Fried java mee and ais kacang…

Its one of the shops I’ve been to since I was a kid after shopping with my mum.

lychee tarts

experiment file#0497 : lychee tarts elpea was experimenting with making tart crusts and out of the blue came up with the lychee filling. well, also we had leftover canned lcyhee from CNY. she filled the tarts with the lychee, chocolate syrup and toppped it off with rainbow sprinkles.
tastewise, the lychee actually complements the sweetness of the crust and the chocolate syrup.
yummy.

teow chew meng

its hard to find a meal around 5pm in town... its way past lunch and not dinner yet and most coffee shops are already closed or just beginning to open.

so there we were driving around new lane, abu siti, lrg selamat and could not find a place that was ry-bran-friendly and so that's how we ended up in teow chew meng in lorong selamat.

i was a bit hesitant at first as i had a few mediocre experiences at TCM in sunwaytunas but i was actually surprised with the food at this branch.

my tomyam maggi with fried fish, which i quite liked. the fish tasted fresher and the soup was much tastier. dad's oyster noodles- looks quite yummy.. will try this next time
elpea's all time favourite mee-suah-kor...
she said it was much thicker, which is as it should be.
the other things we ordered... TCM special fried rice which ry had.
seafood rolls- this is always a favourite and the 1st be go.
prawn fritters- it was actually quite light and quite nice as well.
the last 2 went very well with or without the chili sauce dips.

pie surprise

i met the pie-man.. i did... we were at the PG go-kart festival 2010 and one of the stalls/vans was selling all types of sweet pies. apple, banana, cheese, lemon, coconut, chocolate... i think there was over 20 different pies.. i had to get a slice or two... but which one? how can someone be forced to make a decision like this? how to choose? how to choose laah...!!!!??? i finally chose a slice of apple and another of banana. tastewise, the banana filling tasted better than the apple. the crust was not too sweet but i felt was a bit too dry and crumbly. overall, i would rate the pies at 6/10. i do however commend him on his variety of pies and i actually DO want to try his other pies as well, especially the "open top"ones. by the way, the pie-man's van trolls around a few pasar malams.. really..!! i kid you not..!!!

burgers@jelutong post office

i've been hearing a lot about this stall near the jelutong post office for quite a while now and since we were around there.. well why not... i had the chicken burger, a "ramly" sandwiched in an egg wrap + shredded veggies+mayo+chilli. it was a standard burger but i must say they were generous with the veggies. one of the differences is that the burger is sprinkled with chopped peanuts and have slices of potato. yes, potato.. surprisingly, it actually works. tastewise, i thought it was just normal. nothing extraordinary... not sure what the fuss is about. well, to each his own... pricewise, its was $3 per burger and pretty reasonable.. by the way, their std burger is with egg. by the way, we were at the stall when they were prepping to open. we were customer#2. we were served at 40minutes later and at that point there were about 40 burgers in progress on the grill. elpea wants to improve their processing time..

muffins escapade..

Never again, I say.. Never again..

Was at QB and I went to try some muffins from this muffin stall..

I bought a pack of four.

Visually, they looked appetizing..

but taste wise… lets just say elpea’s worse cupcake taste much much better than this

Personally, I felt it was not fresh..

and quite expensive for the price vs the size..

I had another colleague who bought a pack of 4 as well.

Her kids didn’t want to finish theirs and her kids eat everything. :-)

Actually, even ry didn’t like them..

Never again…

Oreo Cream Cheesecake in cups Part 2

Made these cute little cheesecake in cups few days ago. Wanted to try the new silicone cups that I bought and also to estimate the cost.

I like the cups… they look so cute specially the blue one. Plain ones are cheaper by 0.05 per cup. This time, I did not top it with chocolate ganache and left it plain. I think it is better with the ganache.

Ryan loves these cheesecake in cups. He gave me a thumb up and said “It is delicious, mummy”.

yeesang2010

This is the yeesang we had at dragon-i.

To tell you the truth, our family never had any yeesang all the while i was growing up.

There was steamboat though.. the old school charcoal ones…

I wonder when the hype started that everyone needed to have yeesang for CNY.

slice of heaven?

Ti's the year of the tiger and CNY goodies beckons to us..
what is CNY if not for: mandarin oranges and cookies and packet drinks and coke and shandy and longan and steamboat and FAMILY.... :-)
.................AND lastly, CNY is not CNY without bak kuah..
delicious decadent slices of bbq pork.
our stock this year comes imported from kay-el..
we bought a few homemade ones as well but i still prefer the ones from kiew brothers
sure, many of you may disagree.. but, well to each his own, i say..
individually vacuumed packed slices.... times have changed... 2 important thing about bak kuah to me is : taste and texture
must not be too salty or too sweet.
must not be too "wet", oily, soft or chewy.
perfect texture is sometime very difficult but so far the ones we bought are all very consistent.
taste wise i have no complaints as well.
actually the "char" level is also equally important.. :-)
elpea likes her bak kuah extra black and crispy.
me? i like it like below.. just nice..
isnt that just beautiful??

who says salads have to be boring

no one seems to like to eat the way i do at home.. maybe i'm weird... maybe they're weird.. :-P anyhoo, i had a bottle of italian salad dressing and a bag of lettuce.. and so i was thinking.. why not make a simple salad like that french lady on the food channel.. looks like its salad week... version#1 bowl of lettuce + shredded chicken meat + a handful of crushed bbq potato chips with a few dashes of the italian salad dressing version#2 bowl of lettuce + croutons made from 1 sliced bread + 3/4-boiled egg sprinkled with cayenne pepper and toppped with the italian salad dressing...
