Bakery @ supertanker pg

I love freshly baked bread.
The smell and the taste of the warm dough.
There is a small bakery in the food court near our market here.
And if you go at the right time in the morning, you can get simple yet  awesome breakfast buns.
Red bean, bak-kuah, char-view, coconut and sausage among others.
But my all time favourite is the cinnamon bun.
Again, its just a simple classic cinnamon bun loaded with raisins. But it just taste so good.

laksa @ farlim

This version is slightly different. The fish meat is basically still in its fish form and not been minced yet.
I actually like it this way.

The soup is also quite sweet and the prawns paste is actually mixed in with the soup when they serve it.
Other shops have it in a small spoon at the side for you to mix it in yourself.

Overall, I actually liked it, though I doubt elpea will.

Another unique version of the  penang laksa .
2 thumbs up.

Rainy Friday...

It's was a cold cold rainy evening and what better way than to get warm with some soup.
Tomyam noodle soup to be exact.

And a plate of belacan fried chicken.
I'm feeling warmer already.

pilgrimage

Spore is actually a mecca for international dining.
Greek, Italian, Spanish, American, German and I'm sure there are many others as well, that I haven't listed.
Oh Let's not also forget the local fare as well.

So much food, so little time.
The point that I make is that the variety is there.
It's just if you dare to try the new cuisine and if you are willing to spend,
A whole new world of food options opens up to you.

But, you do not necessarily need to spend a bomb to eat something new, $6 can already get you a nice hotdog or pasta meal in a food court, among other things.

But, if you want "authentic"  char koay teow or hokkein mee or ban chang koay, then sorry laa ..

Killiney kopitiam @ 67 Killiney rd sg

Theres always a line here in sg. Learn to wait or come at a different time, they say.

so here we were in this little "kopitiam" in killiney rd.
they served the normal eggs, toast, spore laksa, mee rebus and mee siam among other things.
even prata.. :-D with curry..

anyway, i could not bring myself to order the spore laksa, so i ordered the mee siam
btw, i was actually telling one of the sporeans that they've been lied to all their lives. the laksa that they thought, was actually not.

anyway, back to this place.
our table ordered the spore laksa, mee siam, prata with curry and also the hals boiled eggs with kaya toast.

the mee siam was surprisngly interesting.
mee siam is made with bihun (rice vermicelli) and the one i had in PG was the dry version.
this one was soupy and had a sweet, sour, spicy tangy taste.
it was actually nice andi liked the soup as well.

the coffee was good too.

but we had some problem with the eggs. they do not break the eggs for you.
seriously... so slightly messy wth shells on the table.

Tony roma's @ suntec city sg

On the last day, after a long long long adventure, we ended up here finally, after rescheduling it for 2 meals.

The main event .
Meat .
Pork .
Ribs.
Bbq'd.

As usual there was a line. But we got through it pretty fast.

I ordered the rib sampler with 4 diffrent flavours, honey, spicy, bourbon and smoked bbq.
My pal took the baby back ribs.

Firstly, the portions were big.
Both rib meals were full of flavour .
Meat was juicy, tender and just slipped off the bone .
Happily used hands to eat.
For my ribs, I preferred the honey version. The spicy one comes in a close second.

Service was pretty fast and the servers actually explained my meal to me.

Not sure when i'll go back.
But the next time it'll be with everyone.

Hans cafe and cake hse @ suntec city sg

Tea time.
Walked again and found this place nearby again.
Pie, eclairs and Kaya toast.
Boleh laa ..

Bratwurst@suntec mall sg

3 guys looking for a nice lunch meal.
Not too heavy but not too light as well and definitely not fast food.
We walked around and ended up at the food directory.
Finally saw a place we all liked and more walking.

Bratwurst is basically a 1-man stall in the foodcourt.
They have a selection of gourmet hotdogs and sandwiches as well.

I always hate this ..
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

In the end, after much consideration,
I went with the mustard and sauerkraut with spicy chicken sausage.

It was a Good choice.
The sausage had a really nice bite to it, which is what's important and the sauerkraut was not as intense as I thought it would be.

Best hotdog I had in a long time.

It's always time for steamboat

We went to eat lok-lok and so far twice already  we not been satisfied.
Mediocre food, bland soup stock and high prices.

So we took matters into our own hands and elpea decided to bring out the steamboat in August.

Best idea ever, dear.

simply nutritious @ lebuh melaka

it was a quiet Sunday evening and we had 3hours to kill..
without the kids...
the place we were going to was recommended by a friend and i've seen good reviews.

simply nutritious is a small restaurant tucked in one of these old houses in the middle of lebuh melaka. its one of those "lanes" right smack in the middle of town.
blink and you'll probably miss it.

the restaurant specializes in spaghetti and i love spaghetti, so it was win-win from the start.

the menu is pretty simple actually.
its got a variety "mains" made up of meats and fish in the different preparation styles.
then they have 4 varieties of spaghetti to serve with the "mains"

  1. pesto
  2. tomato concasse
  3. spinach/mushroom/wolf berry
  4. mushroom cheese

it was pretty early for dinner at 630pm so we were served pretty fast.

the first to come was the drinks, my "orange juice" and her "cucumber and sourplum juice"
her drink was definitely more adventurous than mine and it tasted pretty good actually.
and the orange tasted like orange. :-)

the mushroom soup, which tasted quite good. served in a weird but cool bowl.

my teriyaki fish with pesto spaghetti.
the spaghetti was perfectly "al dente" and the pesto was one of the better ones that i've tasted.

the spaghetti was very nicely coated with the pesto and sprinkled with cheese..
and i didn't even have to sprinkle pepper on it.

the fish was fresh, which to me is the most important factor and as you can see the fish "steak" itself is huge.
also the teriyaki part was nicely executed as well.
as my friend would say, "very flavorful"

so in summary..
she had the mushrom soup which both of us found very nice.
i ordered the teriyaki fish with excellent pesto spaghetti
1 orange juice
1 cucumber sourplum
how much do you think that cost?
~MYR26 only.

overall 9/10
i only wished i could've tasted the other spaghetti's.
we're definitely coming back here.

7 village restaurant @ raja uda

this place has been around for quite a while and its situated in raja uda on the mainland.
though the restaurant has been here for years already i'm not sure why elpea never took me here to eat before. well, better late than never, right?
7 village noodle house specialises in...welll... noodles, what else. :-)
we were there for lunch and ordered the house speciality, noodles both dry and soupy.
everyone else here was eating either one of these.
the dry la mian, $6
i found this quite nice. the serving was huge.
the koay teow noodle soup, $3
not for me as i'm not really a fan.
elpea commented that it was only so-so.
both her and #1 did not finish theirs.
the lohbak, $1.5 per pc and the kwan jiang, $0.8 per pc
the lohbak was a tad too soft for me and the kwan jiang was not what i'm used to.
also, when we arrived, we were not given any menu.
seriously...
apparently, they dont have menu's and as its actually on the wall.
the lady was spouting off the menu like a rocket by hard.
i actually wanted to order more appetizers but i had no idea what to order until much much later when i saw the menu on the wall. by then, i didnt bother. their loss not mine.

anyway, back to the food...
the dry lamian noodles serving like i said was huge with meat slices, fish balls, a literal fistful of minced meat and topped with a runny half boiled egg.
the dry la mian itself was excellent, with very good springy texture but the egg made it super rich.
i actually tried the lamian without mixing in the egg and i found that it taste better.
but again, thats just my personal preferences.

overall, 6/10 but only for the dry lamian.

birthday dinner @ penang chinese swimming club

firstly, this is one of the most strategic places to eat if you hv kids and if you need to hv rice with dishes. plus carpark + breezy + place for kids to run + fast service. i could not ask for more. we've come here a lot for our "family get-together" over the years and everyone likes the food here. i'm sure there are other places around tg bungah but i'm too lazy to explore. anyway, the management and chef has changed but it looks like the menu didn't change much. we started off with birthday mee.
and how can you hv a birthday without "birthday noodles"right?
choon phiah.. super huge
tomyam lohbak
stir fried veggies
the steamed fish
the pai kut wong, de-boned pork ribs
the whole shebang..
overall, it was a good meal. it could have been better . though i must say this is the 1st time that we've finished everything that we ordered.
