more cupcakes.. eh..??!!??

What??!!??

More cupcakes…

Really…??!!?? And In CNY deco some more…

Well, for one, I think my company has upped the ante in giving out festive gifts, as seen from the pictures.

Let me see if I can remember;

coconut water, coconut jelly, muruku,  raya cookie gift packs. Famous amos cookies and now cheese cake+ carbonated fruit drinks and with these really cool cupcakes and mandarin oranges.

I had a previous post about cupcakes.

These however look so so much much better.

Really cool and excellent CNY detailing.

The marzipan oranges even tasted a bit citrusy  as well.

Goes to show that you don’t have to be a “big chain store” to make nice cupcakes.

mamma mia

Meat-ta-balls...!
These are priceless, made by my 80yr old aunt.
The boys call them nuggets.
Best eaten hot and with chilli sauce.

tis the season to eat bak kuah..

What is CNY without:

·         Mandarin oranges

·         Kueh kapik, Peanut cookies

·         Muruku (from my inlaws..really one..!!! )

·         Orange flavored Soft drinks

·         And Bah kuah…

These are the things that make our cny complete..!!! (…and of course, the eve dinner and visiting of relatives and friends and exchanging of angpows.)

Well, to us, at least… as these are the critical components especially when you are chillin at home watching TV with aircon at full blast, safely out of the scorching sun.

Now, back to bak kuah….

Its also music to my ears when my #1 and #2 says to me, “papa, I want to eat bark-kuah”

We actually bought a few packs of bak kuah from BCH and TK.

We bought both the sliced pork and minced pork versions as well.

So far most have been quite disappointing.

Not sure whether it’s because of mass production due to the current seasons demand but they’ve been either

·         Too salty

·         Too wet

·         Too hard

So far none have satisfied.

By the way prices have also been upped, from $38 to nearly $50 for 500grams.

The search goes on.

baby full moon cupcake gift box from coffee bean & tea leaf

When one of our colleagues gets a newborn we normally collect some money to buy them (and the baby) a gift.

And usually, at the end of the 1st month or the full moon celebration for the baby, the new parents normally show their appreciation by giving back “full moon packs”.

The standard old school pack consists of yellow Glutinous rice with curry, red dyed hard boiled eggs and  different types of “ang-koo” kueh (which signify either it was a baby boy or girl…)

This is the 1st time I’ve received the cupcake version as I normally get the KFC or Pizza hut coupons.

 It’s been a while…

Anyway, I must say, at 1st glance the packing and cupcakes look cool.

It does..!!

The deco were make from marzipan and sugar icing. Marzipan was messily patched onto the cupcake with chocolate ganache.

The base Cupcake was just a normal sponge cake.

Overall cupcake designs were cute but overall handiwork looked “rough” and rushed.

Tastewise, it was pretty plain and even slightly dry.

I’ve seen and tasted better.

I mean, it wasn’t “bad”, but It wasn’t “good” as well.

Duck meat koay teow soup

From sunshine market. The uncle stall, beside the koay/cake stall. This one is better than the family stall. Pity the uncle... He has 2 small boys helping him & d boys don't look so keen.

Very good koay teow teng!!

pan mee @ kg jawa

Pan mee is basically handmade noodles.

sort of like pasta

and theres basically a thick or thin version..

eh.. spaghetti or linguine ?

I normally go for the thick noodles.

The fine texture reminds me too much of wantan mee, which I already have a few favorite stalls.

For me, the crunch or spring of the noodle and the texture is the most important thing.

Well, Taste is also a factor, definitely.

Tastewise, I find that Its quite delicious though some of my friends and even elpea has complained that it’s a bit sweet tasting.

Well, I give 4/5 as so far it’s the best tasting pan mee in this 5km radius.

Super huge (mutant?) orange, from the office free fruit program.

You can really hurt someone with that fruit.

Dis is d craze

Very nice. We all like it. Tasted grape, mango & apple. Like apple best.

roti tisu @ kayu nasi kandar

We had roti tisu at a few other places but the one we got here was 'the one' we've been looking for, esp height wise.

I mean, its basically, roti canai stretched super paper thin, smothered with oil and condensed milk and moulded into a huge, tall pyramid.

We've ate this as a dessert after xmas dinner. The place was super packed and service was a bit slower.

We dont normally eat in this restaurant as its super expensive but we made an exception for this.

5/5, but only for this.

Meh Li piah

Something that I ate a lot as a kid & also during my varsity years. Not this brand though.

I remember d gals next room (@UUM) made a cake from this.

steamed bread

2 days back, we ate curry chicken with 2 loaves of wholemeal bengkali roti, given by a friend.

The bread was taken out from 2 fridge after 2 days and I suggested to steam it.

And as it turned out, steaming it was a great idea after all.

The bread turned out to be made moist and fluffily soft again.

And it tasted great with the excellent curry chicken

Now I know why they steam hotdog buns.

pre- cny steamboat

We did this about 2 weeks back.

Bak kut teh version.

Success!!

But I think we’re actually going this skip this for actual CNY.

:-D

How ironic..

Eating dishes are easier.

J

long delayed makan session

These were served during our little get together a few weeks back…

Each person, well supposedly, cooked their own dish. ^_^

Seafood Omelet with sausages by david,

Prawn sambal by luyee

Stir fried vege by elpea  topped with sliced bak kuah.

Grilled chicken, chicken by Chandra and grilled by elpea (no picture laaah)

Watermelon by luyee  (no picture laaah)

And a bottle of Australian wine by david as well. (no picture laaah)

Simple, delicious and fulfilling.

new tastes

I seemed to have obtained an affinity for soy based soft serve ice cream

(..its actually quite yummy, definitely good for those with lactose intolerance..)

And also for instant cup “mee goreng”

(..yes, its quite unhealthy, which is why I just bought 2 cups. I discovered this by accident during one of the recent hospital stays..)

And we’ve discovered a new wan tan mee shop

And a new pan mee place..

I’ll write aout it in good time..

It I have it…

This is like a trailer..

J

who??

someone let me tried this the other day. it was good but who lah. dont know where this person bought it. my guess will be either Jusco or Cold Storage.

sg dua wan tan mee

one of the best wan tan mee.... plus 2 restaurant at sg dua - E fav place.

my all time favorite

heheheheheh..... i am going to drink to my heart desire this coming CNY. long off days so no need to worry of not able to wake up in the morning for work.

choc from US

why lah choc from oversea is so much better ... germany, us, uk.... even singapore.
this one is from US brought by visitors. hmmm who is going to US?

choc + raisin

Another thing we’ve been eating lately.

More bread, Gardenia Delicia coklat and kismis.

Its actually pretty yummy even by itself.

Very chocolately and generously filled with raisins.

I normally eat it lightly toasted with some praline spread.

BR

rum & raisins.... world class chocolate...raspberries....mango...coconut (ry's fav).
only on 31st....we queue

the 'ice kacang'

my mum is an ice kacang person. e too. we normally go to the ones at penang road (the famous cendol) and kek seng for ice kacang. i never fancy it let alone crave for one.

BUT one kacang did just that - the one from Eastern Wishes (near JPJ at I avenue). this is the super delicious ice kacang hence "THE ICE KACANG". ooohhh i now feel like eating one.

order for 38 tuna sandwiches

Ry ordered 38 tuna sandwiches from me last year for his Hari Kanak Kanak party. i wanted to bake a cake but he preferred sandwiches. customer needs come first : )

he supervised my work and made double sure that i put in exactly 38 - not more not less. even taught me how to count by grouping into tens.

nasi tomato

thanks to Fazie and Lillian... my nasi tomato has improved! cooked this for Christmas (minus the blunder of throwing away the first pot).

the secret is the tomato puree and ideal milk. must use ideal milk.

Ooohhh heaven

this is one of the luxury in life for me... sipping strawberry coffee with the raindrops hitting the roof and reading my book. yes.. i am simple : )

thanks to my dear fren GL for introducing me this and also for supplying.

a fruit a day

my company is a good company. it is giving fruits to its employees- a fruit a day. one of the week's fruits. fresh and juicy fruits. apple, plum, pomegranate, red and china pear.

Curry Chicken Finally

finally i cooked the curry chicken that taste 80% like my 3 kor's curry chicken. so good to eat with hot white rice. one of my regrets is that i did not learn any cooking from her. i should have.

bee tai bak & 'pak cham kai'

this is from the coffee shop along carnavon street (opp Sim's & Co). rating 7/10. boleh lah.

treat from colls

it was so sweet of my colls to treat me lunch for my birthday. thanks guys! we went to canton - i and had the best 'char siew' & 'siu bak' in penang as HF put it :) Oopss i forgot to take the picture of the most delicious food!

my birthday breakfast

simplicity is me. no fancy breakfast...elaborated meal...  - i dont like all that. for years... i will opt for a simple breakfast & lunch for my birthday - bottom line it got to be good food so i dont end up complaining about it the whole day... :)

the last time we went to this place for wan tan mee was like 9 or 10 years ago. the wan tan mee is still good - good ole days type of wan tan mee - the one which brings you back to your childhood. excellent!
