ecomony mee @ sunshine market

Another good breakfast meal is fried noodles.

There are many stalls of this kind in the sunshine sq food court but

The one I like best is located directly opp the entrance to the fruit/sundry/pork area of the market.

And as usual, there are many varieties: fried beehoon, fried mee, fried koayteow or fried maggi.

Me, I always go for the fried mee. Always satisfying.

Took and additional packet of combo maggi+koay teow. Didn’t really like it..

The noodle is not too salty and not too oily and not too soft..

Oh yea, The chilli is equally important, both blended and sliced.

cupcakes galore...

Elpea made some “elmo” cupcakes for ry’s’ 5th birthday in his kindy…

She made a few types of coloured icing.

They look and taste pretty good.

But she was not too happy with the “red” as she couldn’t get “elmo red”

I liked the blue though

choco-banana pie and special choc cake @ starbucks

Starbucks Chocolate banana pie

It’s getting more and more disappointing every time I eat this.

Words that come to my mind: Hard, bland, flaky, mana banana?

I didn’t like the crust at all. Maybe it’s just me. And I felt there was not enough banana. (thinking of secret recipe’s choc banana cake..)

:-P… 3/10

Starbucks Special choc cake

#1, its myr9 for a slice…!!!!!!!!!!!

#2, um, its very chocolatey

#3, eer, its soft like cake looh..

I give it 5/10 because I like the brownie at Secret recipe better and cheaper…. (yaya, I know.. “brownie” does not equal “cake”.. shaddaplah you…)

lohbak which my dad buys for us..

One of my favorite foods is lohbak. It’s basically strips of seasoned pork wrapped in a ‘soy based’ skin/wrapping and deep fried. I can remember my mum and aunt preparing this dish when I was a kid. They would slice the pork into strips, season with salt/pepper and 5 spice powder then wrap them in the soy wrapping and deep fry them. Quite tedious and time consuming, which is why I remember my mum making it only once in a while.

I’ve eaten other lohbaks but this is one of the better ones that I’ve tasted. Some make it with minced pork but I feel using pork strips is better. It gives it a harder texture with more “crunch”. Minced pork makes it “soft”.

My dad normally buys 10 pieces for us. I do not know the exact location of the shop but i know its at mt erskine.

Overall rating of 8/10

roti canai @ opp bukit gedung mosque

We’ve been buying from this stall for “year’s” already.

It’s in the shophouse directly opposite the bukit gedung mosque by the “river”. A few doors away from the bukit gedung chicken rice.

I used to eat the roti bawang (onion bread) but these days I feel the roti kosong (plain bread) actually taste much better.

The crust is crispy but once you bite in, you’ll realize that the bread maintains its softness as well.

And what is the roti without the “kuah campur”. The “mixed” gravy is also quite good and we hv not found any other stall that rivals it.

Note that the queue is quite long on weekends. I usually hv to wait 20-30minutes for take-away…but always worth the wait.

I rate it 9/10 for both roti kosong and gravy

supertanker chicken rice

This stall is quite famous for its chicken and duck rice.

I normally order the chicken/bbq pork combo.

The chicken taste average only, I actually had better.

And same goes for the sliced bbq pork. I felt there was too much “fat”.

The only plus point is that the gravy is quite nice. It’s actually from the “drippings” of the roast chicken/duck.

I rate it 6/10

curry and bangkali roti @ home

We are simple people.. Bread and curry also maketh a meal. And curry is best dipped with bangkali roti.

Bangkali roti used to cost 60/70cents. These days its at 90cents and the bread is actually smaller than I previously remember it. Times are hard..

mee goreng@coffeshop in front of pulau tikus police-station

I always seem to go back to this stall. Why? Because taste wise its pretty good and both elpea and ry like it as well.

I rate it 8/10.

big apple donuts part 2

While I was wandering around gurney, I could not resist going back to buy more donuts…

Clockwise From top left

Durian, (tasted a bit weird, very artificial… )

pink panther, (for ry)

brandons daily food...

Elpea prepares brandons”broth”  with the slow cooker.

Takes 2hours +

Rice+veg or with chicken meat..

playing with sugar

Elpea experimenting with cupcakes and icing, in anticipation of ry’s birthday request for a cupcake “birthday cake”

Her butter icing is quite good, both taste and texture wise.
